Part-time business idea – eBay
What could be better than running a business from home, earning extra income and only working part time? You can even run a shop from your front room by setting up an eBay shop online. Since it began in 1995, eBay has grown from individuals selling unwanted Christmas presents to giving millions of people the opportunity to go into business and earn a healthy second income from what amounts to listing, selling, packaging and sending products.
Setting up an eBay business is simple, with few overheads and, if you start sensibly, relatively small risk attached. The key to making this a sustainable method of generating extra income from home is to choose your products carefully. Do your research and, if you can, identify a niche market that you can claim for yourself. If you are selling in a competitive market, make sure you research the competition and keep checking on them. You need to be aware of what others are charging for similar products and how they are marketing themselves. With good knowledge of your competitors you can ensure that you do it better and keep ahead.
Start your business cautiously. Don’t just go and buy a vast amount of stock that you have no hope of shifting. Test the market first, get a feel for the demand for your product and how much profit you are making. Then and only then should you go for bulk purchase of stock from wholesalers. With the recession forcing many retailers to close, there is also the opportunity to buy up liquidated stock at very low prices. Or you could look at dropshipping opportunities which means you don’t have to worry about storage space or delivery since that will be done for you. Whatever you choose to sell, try and start by selling something that you understand or have a particular interest in.
Excellent customer service is essential. Reputations are made or destroyed by the feedback of customers which is there for everyone to see. Even just a few bad feedback scores will make people think twice about buying from you. Honesty in your product descriptions, transparency of cost and speed of delivery are what you should be aiming for.
